Explored Lisboa

Justin Gambill May 27, 2015

Beautiful day, 80 degrees and blue bird. Woke up late (4pm). It was either the jet leg or the Porto.

Took my bike all through the city. Alfama, Bario Alto, Baixa and beyond.

Might have got some recommendations from a guy name Anthony B.

Went to Ramrio for dinner. Unbelievable seafood... barnacles, oysters, langastinos, rock crab, and white green wine to wash it down.

Went to a Jazz club near Jardim Botânico da Universidade de Lisboa

Love that music. Good Porto too.

CMH-IAD-LHR-LIS

Dad takes us to Max and Erma's for a round. Good byes hurt but are necessary. It lets you know how much you want the choice you made.

Once I hit Lisbon, the adventure started. Didn't think my bike made it but it turns out there's a "belt" (aka baggage claim area) for larger items. After a little panicking, I found my bike there.

Not having an immediate connection to the interwebs is going to take some getting use to. Not knowing how to get to your temporary home (Airbnb) is a terrible feeling, especially after a 17 hour travel time. TIP: save an offline google map, thanks Adams. Finally got on my bike and costed to the cost. Absolute freedom.

The hills here are no joke, something they don't tell you in the guide books. 5:30pm I arrived at my AirBnb, 152 Rua Da Verónica. I wasn't able to get ahold of my host. The door was locked and no way to get in, so I used a trick that has never failed, just hit every button until someone answers.

The man that answered was now my best friend in Lisboa. Two Migeul's who both have AirBNB. WTF. My new best friend calls both. He refused $. The real Migeul came around 7pm. As I waited my new friend invited me in where his wife was enjoying snails. He asked me to sit down and immediately went into hospitality mode. He encouraged me to keep drinking the sangria. I had know problem doing that considering the travel and ride up hill to my apartment. Snails were tasty. Steamed, sitting in olive oil and salt.

11pm Lisboa. Currently looking for a drink and a quick decision, and am leaning towards bed b/c I'm beat.

This port an't half bad.

Unboxing w/ local Lisbon street performer playing Fado.
